Contact Apple Computer for more information. ======================================================== 2. HARDWARE NOTES ======================================================== -------------------------------------------------------- FOR 3D-graphics accelerator support, you need QD3D AND you need at least 4MB VRAM !!! -------------------------------------------------------- MOST MACS HAVE SHIPPED WITH SOME VERSION OF QD3D SINCE 1997, HOWEVER WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO ALWAYS SEEK THE LATEST AVAILABLE DEVICE DRIVERS FOR YOUR SYSTEM IN ORDER TO OPTIMIZE PERFORMANCE. CONTACT YOUR HARDWARE MANUFACTURER FOR MORE INFORMATION. On to the matter of drivers: We'd like to remind you to double check that your pertinent 3D-graphics device drivers are certified as QuickDraw(tm)3D compatible. **Please contact your hardware manufacturer if you have any concerns about compatibility with QuickDraw3D. If you have trouble starting the game in hardware mode, you may try editing your CUSTOM.INI file to include the following command to force the game to load in software mode: HARDWARE=SOFT8 That will force the game to initialize with software rendering. -------------------------------------------------------- For VOODOO chipset accelerator cards -------------------------------------------------------- The nice folks at 3DFx have permitted us to redistribute a recent version of RAVE drivers which we've tested as being compatible with Dark Vengeance. These are in a sub-folder of the demo folder. Please contact your hardware manufacturer with any specific installation questions or concerns. ======================================================== 3. ADVANCED USER SETTINGS ======================================================== OK, WE'RE TRUSTING THAT YOU CAN "HANDLE" THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION. MAKE US PROUD, YOU GEEKS. HOW TO CUSTOMIZE CONTROLS AND "DE-CHORD" GAME FUNCTIONS If you've read the doc you probably know by now that Dark Vengeance offers a game interface which is based on the concept of "chording" game functions with the central movement keys... sort of like playing a chord on a musical instrument, or you'll also know the concept as "holding down the control key and then another key" to create yet another command. Well we know that some of you just can't ever be satisfied to be conformists, and others always want more features than we may feel are safe for mere mortals to have presented to them in game menus, so we've included ways to customize beyond the in-game interface. Eat your heart out. You can also AT YOUR OWN RISK set special parameters in your DVKEYSET.INI file. The format of the INI file is straightforward: {INPUT} = {FUNCTION} Where valid inputs are all keys, mouse functions and joystick functions installed and known through DirectInput via 100% compatible DirectX device drivers. Got that? {INPUT} = {FUNCTION}. Hey, and don't put the strings in quotes, either. FUNCTIONS you can "bind" inputs to beyond the defaults are for example: ATTACK_RIGHT (duplicates the function of using the ATTACK chord key and the RIGHT movement key, but on a single customized input; therefore, what we call "de-chorded") -------------------------------------------------------- LIST OF SPECIAL KEY INDENTIFIERS -------------------------------------------------------- These are in addition to other "normal" keyboard keys, which are of course "fair game" to remap as you desire. Note that the FKeys and Numeric keys are restricted, as well as Return/Enter, Tab, Backspace and CapsLock... so keep away there. CTRL ALT OPT (for Mac) CMD (for Mac) SHIFT SPACE INS FWDDEL HOME, END, PGUP, PGDN RETURN CLEAR DEL -------------------------------------------------------- MOUSE BINDING SUPPORT -------------------------------------------------------- MOUSE_LEFT, MOUSE_RIGHT, MOUSE_UP, MOUSE_DOWN MOUSE_ROLLUP, MOUSE_ROLLDOWN MOUSE_BUTTON# (where # is the mouse button number) -------------------------------------------------------- JOYSTICK BINDING SUPPORT -------------------------------------------------------- (where $ is the Joystick number, ## is the button number, and & is the hat number) JOY$_BUTTON## JOY$_XNEG, JOY$_XPOS, JOY$_YNEG, JOY$_YPOS, JOY$_ZNEG, JOY$_ZPOS JOY$_RXNEG, JOY$_RXPOS, JOY$_RYNEG, JOY$_RYPOS, JOY$_RZNEG, JOY$_RZPOS JOY$_S1NEG, JOY$_S1POS, JOY$_S2NEG, JOY$_S2POS JOY$_POV&LEFT, JOY$_POV&RIGHT, JOY$_POV&UP, JOY$_POV&DOWN -------------------------------------------------------- LIST OF DARK VENGEANCE GAME FUNCTIONS FOR BINDING -------------------------------------------------------- FWD, BACK, LEFT, RIGHT SLOW FWD_SLOW, BACK_SLOW, LEFT_SLOW, RIGHT_SLOW JUMP FWD_JUMP, BACK_JUMP, LEFT_JUMP, RIGHT_JUMP DODGE FWD_DODGE, BACK_DODGE, LEFT_DODGE, RIGHT_DODGE LOOK FWD_LOOK, BACK_LOOK, LEFT_LOOK, RIGHT_LOOK ATTACK FWD_ATTACK, BACK_ATTACK, LEFT_ATTACK, RIGHT_ATTACK UNIQUE FWD_UNIQUE, BACK_UNIQUE, LEFT_UNIQUE, RIGHT_UNIQUE WEAPON FWD_WEAPON, BACK_WEAPON, LEFT_WEAPON, RIGHT_WEAPON INTERACT QUICK_TURN LOOK_RESET OK, remember, no support calls on this stuff. We're trusting that you will debug your own typos. If you do have trouble, just delete your DVKEYSET.INI file and Dark Vengeance will give you a new one the next time you play. Thanks, and have a blast. ======================================================== 4. MULTIPLAYER NOTES ======================================================== -------------------------------------------------------- MODERATOR SELECTIONS -------------------------------------------------------- It is possible to restrict who has the ability to change the Host and Match settings during network games. When setting up a network game server the Moderator Selection option will have three choices: 1) All - any players may adjust settings for the Match and Host, best only used with folks you trust. 2) Server only - only the player set up as Player/Server may make change the Match and Host settings. 3) First Client Only - the first player to log onto the server as player only will be able to make changes. This is most useful when the server is set up as 'headless' (no player on that machine). -------------------------------------------------------- TEXTURE WARNINGS -------------------------------------------------------- Systems with lower amounts of video memory (2-4MB VRAM) may experience texture problems during network games in which a large number of players are using custom or team skins. In these situations it is recommended that the user turn off custom skins in the Player Settings menu and turn only Net Halos and/or Custom Colors on instead. -------------------------------------------------------- OTHER IN-GAME FUNCTIONS -------------------------------------------------------- Use the up/dn arrow keys to show team scores for teams 3+4. Hit the key to start a broadcast message. This message will only go to teammates in team games. Putting an '!' at the start of a chat message in a team game makes it broadcast to non-team-members. ======================================================== 5.
