Running the Program **************************************** MAIN MENU After the opening animation, the Main Menu will appear. The Main Menu allows you to choose from the following options: New Hunt: if you're achin' to kick some hunter butt Trophies: if you want to see the prize hunters you've downed Credits: if you're curious about the kind of people who create games like this Exit: if you just can't take it anymore STARTING A NEW HUNT Enter your name, then click OK. NOTE: The program will keep a separate trophy room for every name you enter. So, if you want to see the hunters you've downed previously, be sure to sign in with the same name. CHOOSE YOUR WEAPON Now, choose your weapon! M-16 Rifle: ouch! This really stings! Bazooka: you can hardly miss with this baby! Sling Shot: what's that stinky little gift you're slingin'? Deer Poop! What a way to go! Make a choice, then click the NEXT button. CHOOSE YOUR AVENGING AREA Choose a place to avenge! Connecticut in the Spring: Picturesque, peaceful New England. A breathtaking backdrop for vengeance. Minnesota in the Winter: Winter in the gopher state....10,000 frozen lakes and lot of dumb hunters. West Virginia in the Fall: Come for the hunting, stay for the wacky dancing banjo-playing inbred freaks! Make a choice, then click the HUNT button. THE MAP SCREEN Now that you've chosen a place to avenge, you need to choose a hunting spot within that location. Use this highly advanced overview Map Screen to navigate around and locate the optimal hunting spot. The rectangular display on the left is an overview of your chosen location, either Connecticut, Minnesota or West Virginia. Although you can't see them on this high tech screen, hunters are moving about freely in that location. Your goal is to locate hunters, then go to that area to hunt. Locate hunters by moving the high tech circle around this overview. The circle represents the area within which you will be able to see a hunter when you go to hunt. If there are signs of hunters at that spot, they will show up in the rectangular display on the right hand side of the screen. And if there are signs -- beer cans, girly magazines, etc. -- then there's a good chance there will be hunters and you should go there to hunt. So, follow these steps to choose and go to a hunting spot: (In other words, let's try this again if you didn't understand those last three paragraphs.) 1. Click on a spot on the overview. The circle will move there. 2. If there are signs of hunters at that spot, the signs will show up in the rectangle on the right hand side of the screen. 3. If you want to hunt at that spot, click the HUNT button on the bottom of the screen. You will then be sent to the Hunt Screen. If you don't want to hunt there, simply click on another spot to move the circle there. THE AVENGING(hunting) SCREEN Once you've chosen a hunting spot, you will be sent to this screen. Here, you are looking through the eyes of Bambo, Deer Avenger! Looking Around To view the entire 360 degrees of this scene move the cursor to the far right or left of the screen. The screen will then scroll in either direction. To look up and down, move the cursor to the top or bottom of the screen. Avenging Icons At the bottom of this screen you will find 7 icons. Here, from left to right, is what each of them does: Map: Click on this button to return to the Map Screen and choose another hunting spot. Fart: Click on this button to try to "smoke 'em out" (the hunters, that is). But be careful not to use it too much -- the hunters will all run for the hills. This is genuine beer and egg deer fart and is very effective when used properly. Calls: Click on this button if you want to try to attract hunters to your area. There are a number of different calls, all appealing to the soul of the hunter. Use it properly and you will be a very successful Deer Avenger. Aim: Click on this button to raise your weapon. To fire, click the mouse again. Fire as often as you like. Have fun! But if you fire too much you may scare away the hunters. If you aim correctly and hit a hunter in the right spot, it'll be curtains for him and a trophy for you! Press the or the key to lower your weapon. Look: Click on this button to raise your binoculars. Press the or the key to lower the binoculars. Compass: This icon shows the direction you're facing. Up is north. Quit: Click here if you're such a wussy that you have to leave the game to run home for lunch. TROPHY ROOM After you've downed a hunter, you will go to the Trophy Room where the hunter will be mounted. Roll over him with the mouse for some Deer Avenger comments and stats, including the number of times you've downed that hunter. There are seven hunters to be downed in Deer Avenger: Earl, Jed, Bubba, Tad, Biff, Tree Hugger and the elusive Tree Man. If you can fill your trophy room with each hunter, you will truly be a Deer Avenger! ***************************************** E.
