There are a few console commands which might come in handy. To access the console, tap the ~ (tilde) key at the upper left of your keyboard (next to the 1 key). The game will become paused and a box will drop down listing any recent messages the game may have sent to you as well as a bracket ] like this. You can type various commands in here. After typing a command, tap the [Return] key and then the [Escape] key to close the console. Here are a few useful commands. NAME (type a name) - changes your name in a network game. Typing NAME WIZBANG would change your name to WIZBANG in the game. FOV 110 - Widens your field of view to 110 degrees of arc. Usually the field of view is 90 degrees. FOV 110 gives you a bit more peripheral vision, but the screen will look a bit distorted at the edges and you will not be able to see the gun you are carrying. FOV 90 changes the field of view back to normal. R_DRAWVIEWMODEL 0 - Turns the gun "off." Makes it so you do not see the gun drawn t the bottom of your screen; you will still be able to fire the gun normally. Some people prefer this, but some find that it makes the game difficult to play. R_DRAWVIEWMODEL 1 turns the gun back "on." CROSSHAIR 1 - Turns the crosshair on, drawing a plus sign right in the middle of the screen where the bullets fire to from the gun you are carrying. CROSSHAIR 0 turns the gun off again. +MLOOK - turns mouselook on until you type -MLOOK at the console. This allows you to look around and turn in place while using the keys to move forward and backward and step from side to side, etc. Some people find that this gives them a great amount of freedom of motion and accurate aim when playing Quake. Other console commands as well as some command line parameters can be found at the excellent Quake site: http://www.stomped.com This site has numerous FAQ's, informational files, links, and news items about Quake. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ====================================================== Quake for Macintosh Internet Mailing List ====================================================== If you are interested in getting information on or talking about Quake for Macintosh with other people, there is an internet mailing list available.
