Introduction & Installation: The purpose of the demo of MonolithÕs Shogo: M.A.D is to give you a general idea of the basic concept of the game. While the demo remains limited to 2 levels of single player and 2 levels of multiplayer, you can still get a good idea of both types of situations, the first being the M.C.A (Mobile Combat Armor) mission and the second being the Human mission. Certain features can only be accessed when in the M.C.A mode. Both game types have different weapons, although not all are included in this demo, you can still enjoy both side of the game. We have disabled certain features in the demo, such as custom maps and skins. We have also disabled the cheat codes in this demo version of Shogo. Please Take time to read this file, we have provided a lot of information and content that may prove helpful. We hope you enjoy many hours of fun with this demo! System Requirements: Operating System: Mac OS 8.5 or later CPU Type & Speed: 233MHz or faster PowerPC G3 or G4 Memory: 96 MB RAM Hard Drive Space: 80 MB Graphics: OpenGL 1.1.2, 4MB VideoRAM CD-ROM Speed: 8x CD-ROM drive Specifics: GameSprokets 1.7.3 Recommended: G3/333 MHz; 128 MB of RAM; 6 MB of VideoRAM Installation: The installer will install all the necessary files in order to run Shogo: M.A.D. The Shogo application is in the data folder, it has to remain in there at all times. Use the alias provided in order to launch the demo. Read the following information to understand to fully operate the demo. First Launch: When launching the Shogo Demo for the first time. We recommend that you configure the keyboard and mouse (or joystick) to your licking. This is to help you get the most out of this demo. Please take time to check the display and sound settings, to make sure they are correctly configured to your computersÕ capacity. Refer to the Performance and General Tips in section 4. 2. Menu Panel Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate, and press the Enter key to select. Each Main menu function brings up a list of secondary menu items. The sub-menus are standard and should not cause any problems. Below you will find an explanation of the menus, this will help you use and configure the game. Single-Player: Under this menu, you will find various Sub-menus. Each have a different purpose. The first sub-menus are to choose your skill level. Remember choose adequately, as you might find yourself confronted to very strong and powerful foes. Easy: For people with heart conditions and parents. Medium: The average players should choose this level. The game will be fun enough to play, without to many hard to kill enemies. Hard: This difficulty level is above average, causing the enemies to hunt you down and to become ruthless killers. We love this, and once your ready this will be for you. Use this level of skill to practise for online game, as many PC users have already years of training. MADNESS: For insane psychopaths like Duke Nukem, or people who want to spice up their gameplay! Load Game: The load gam menu will allow you to load previously saved games. Letting you go back into action at exactly the emplacement you saved your game. Although you might not have saved any games, this features keep track of your last mission. So if you which to start your mission all over gain, select the ÔRestart mission XÕ and press enter. X being the name of the mission. Save Game: In this menu you will be able to save you current mission, whether you are in an M.C.A or not. You can overwrite previous save games by save on top of that select game. The game will always be instantly saved, allowing you to continue your combat straight away! We recommend you save fairly often, in order to make sure you do not have to re-start your mission. Custom Levels: This menu allow you to load Third Party Shogo level. PC-created level are usually compatible with Shogo for Mac. We cannot guarantee that all custom level will be able to load or work correctly with the Mac version of Shogo. This menu will only be available in the full version of the game. Multiplayer: The demo allows you to join a already running server and host a Shogo game. Since this is the demo, you are only allowed to play against other demo players. Certain servers might disable certain features such as the tractor beam or the double-jump, so make sure you quickly know which are disabled and which options arenÕt. See the multiplayer section for more information on joining and hosting a Shogo game. Options: In this menu you will be able to configure Shogo. You will get a choice of displays, in which graphical setting can be configured. The following menu will be Sound, there you will be able to control the sound volume and quality. After that you may choose to configure the keyboard. We recommend you make sure that the keyboard is configured the way you like it, as it might cause some trouble while playing the game with an unfamiliar configuration. Next wile come the mouse menu, in which you can configure your mouse or your joystick. If you have difficulties configuring your mouse, we strongly recommend using USB Overdrive. Quit: Use this menu to leave the demo. Press Y key to confirm your decision, press N key to go back to the menu. All changes to the game, such as keyboard settings and other will be saved. These changes are only saved when quitting the game through this menu. IF using the console to quit, no changes will be saved. Therefor you will have to re-configure the game once re-launched. 3. Additional Game Play Info: Status Bar: Your status is shown as icons floating in your view at the bottom of the screen. These indicators show your health, armor and ammo for your selected weapon. To view all of your inventory, press the I key. Maximizing the screen by pressing the + key may remove the Status Bar from your viewing area. In order to get it back, simply press the - key. Mission Objective: By pressing the F1 key, a new menu will appear. His will contain information about your missionÕs objective. They will come up after having a in-game discussion with one of your allies. Messages: Shogo will inform you that fond a certain area or object type. It will tell you with a brief message in the top left hand corner of the screen what item you have picked-up. Messages will also be using in multiplayer game in order to inform you that you have killed another player, even you can distinctly see his guts all over the walls. Vehicle Mode: When in an M.C.A. mission you can walk or choose to go faster by enabling the vehicle mode by pressing the V key. When this in mode you will transform in ÔcarÕ in which you can navigate around levels at a much faster speed than while walking. In this mode your weapons will be disabled. In order to use your weapons you will have to return to the walking mode by re-pressing the V key. Tractor Beam: When in vehicle mode you will be able to use a special feature called the tractor beam. Similar to QuakeÕs grappling hook, the tractor beam enables you to navigate through the map and a much faster and more efficiently than you would if you were on foot. The tractor beam is only available when in vehicle mode. Items: In Shogo you will encounter various items such as weapons, armour, health, etc. Their is no ammo when you pick up a weapon you get ammo from the weapon. Health pack come in small or large crates containing medical supplies which are automatically applied to your body and healthÕs you. Armor is also part of the item you are able to pick up. Thus increasing your resistance to bullets. When in M.C.A mode you can only pick up weapons, energy and armor. Weapons and armor both act in the same way as it does when on foot. The energy can be compared to human health. No energy, no way to power your M.C.A. 4. Performance and General Tips: If you own a «small« Mac with only 96MB RAM and 4MB VideoRAM you should set the details setting «LOW« and also do not use resoltions larger than 640x480 pixels 16it. You must enable virtuel memory at least 128MB to let Shogo work properly. 5. Multiplayer: Online games are very different from the single-player aspect of Shogo, as it allows you to fight against real humans. Shogo will allow you to select two types of maps, one featuring the M.C.A and the other map featuring only you. For the demo we have only allowed you to use the two level included in the single-player mode. The demo does not support third-party skin and amps for online game (and single player game either). Press the Tab key to find out your current frag count (numbers of kills) and current latency (ping). Use the S key to type a message to other players on the server. 6. Miscellaneous: Console: To view the console press ~ key, you can type in various commands that can directly change the game. The commands entered here can not be entered any where else, unless by manually configuring your autoexec.cfg file. Advanced Controls: Although you can edit the controls, sounds and graphics while in the game itself. Advance user might want to edit the autoexec.cfg file, which contains all the parameters for the gameÕs configuration. This file can be found in ShogoÕs data folder. You can edit this text file with a simple text editor. Certain parameters can be entered directly using this way, although it is only recommended to experts we do recommend you making a backup copy of this file. 8.
