==================================================================================== RELEASE NOTES ==================================================================================== Theme Park World Demo Developed by: Bullfrog Productions Ltd. Macintosh Programming: Elegant Chaos Published by: Feral Interactive Ltd -------------- About The Demo -------------- The demo is a very cut down version of Theme Park World - there is much much more in the full game, but hopefully this will give you a good taster! In this demo you can only play one of the four park themes (Lost World), and you can only play in Instant Action mode. In the full game there are another three themes to choose from (Halloween, Fantasy and Space) and you get the choice of Instant Action or Full Simulation mode. We have also removed most of the rides, sideshows, shops and features for the demo - there are lots of these to discover in the full game. Other features missing from the demo include background music and all of the online functionality. To get started, simply run the installed, and then double click on the Theme Park World Demo icon. The game will launch, and create a new park for you. The on-screen advisor will explain things from there! EA do not provide the technical support the Macintosh version of Theme Park World. ------------------- System Requirements ------------------- The requirements for running TPW are: Minimum Configuration ð Mac OS 8.5 ð OpenGL 1.1.2 (included on the disc) ð QuickTime 4.0 (included on the disc) ð Any Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3 processor running at 266 Mhz or faster. ð 64 MB RAM (with virtual memory set to at least 128 MB) ð Supported 3D Accelerator with at least 6MB of VRAM ð 150 MB free hard disk space ð 4xCD-ROM drive Recommended Configuration ð Any Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3 or G4 processor running at 333 Mhz or faster. ð 128 MB RAM ð Supported 3D Accelerator with 16 MB of VRAM. Online Requirements ð Online features require TCP/IP Internet connection at 28.8Kbps or faster. Players are responsible for all applicable Internet fees. --------- Mac OS X --------- At the time of writing, Apple has just released the first public beta of its new operating system, Mac OS X. Theme Park World has not been tested under Mac OS X, and although it may work we are not currently supporting it with this version of the operating system. We are exploring the possibility of producing a Mac OS X version of the game in the future - this will depend on a number of factors including the final release date of the new operating system. If we produce a Mac OS X version of the game we will release an upgrade for existing users, which will be freely available from the Feral website. ===================================================================================== TROUBLESHOOTING ===================================================================================== ------------ Known issues ------------ 1. When Parks get very big you may find that when you try to save the Park it gives you a message saying that it is running dangerously low on memory and in the worst case it may freeze . If you are going to build really large Parks make sure that you give the game lots of RAM and save it frequently. 2. Also with very large parks you may find that they begin to slow down on your computer. To speed things up you can do a number of things: a) reduce the graphics quality to low b) turn off various sound elements such as Sound Effects, Music, and Speech. All this can be done via the Options screen in the game itself. ------------- Memory issues ------------- TPW requires at least 64mb of RAM to run, and prefers to have more. If you have a machine with only 64Mb of RAM, you will need to use virtual memory. To do this, open the "Memory" control panel, turn virtual memory on, and set the box on the right to at least 128Mb. Now restart your machine. If TPW displays a message stating that there is not enough memory to continue, then the game has used up all the memory allocated to it. In this situation, you will need to exit the game and then allocate more memory to the TPW application. You may also need to increase the amount of virtual memory that you are using. If you get the "not enough memory" message, you should attempt to exit the game normally. If you are asked to save the game, use a new filename so that your old file is preserved as a backup. For further information on how to adjust the memory usage of applications, and how to adjust your virtual memory settings, please refer to the manuals that came with your computer, or select "Mac OS Help" from the Finder's Help menu. ------------ Video issues ------------ When starting TPW you will see a number of splash screens and a QuickTime movie. There are several different movies and we think they are endlessly amusing, but after a few viewings you may wish to skip them - to do so press the spacebar once or click the mouse while the movie is playing. ------------ Speed Issues ------------ If you find the game is slow to run then you can try the following to speed things up: 1 - Ensure that TPW is the only application that you are running, any other applications will use up valuable system memory, which may slow down the game. 2 - Allocate as much RAM to the game as you can. 3 - In the options panel with the game - set the video and sound options to their lowest settings 4 - Ensure that your main hard disk has a lot of spare disk space. If necessary, clear disk space. -------- Upgrades -------- If the previous tips didn't speed things up enough for your liking and you are considering upgrading your system then bear the following in mind: 1 - Frequent Hard Disk Access This indicates that your system is low on memory and is using virtual memory (stored on the Hard disk), the best way to speed up your game will be to purchase more memory (RAM). 2 - Slow Processing with no hard disk access You best bet in this case would be to upgrade the processor, or buy a new computer ================================================================================== END ==================================================================================
