Welcome to Virtual Grand Prix 2 Demo!

VGP2 is the an advanced open-wheeled racecar simulation, developed by Paolo Cattani and his staff at AlasSoft using industrial automotive standards for the simulation of the dynamic components (whose parameters were tuned using real telemetry data) and tested by real one-seaters drivers.

To experience something more realistic, you have to race in real racecar competitions!

But there is also an 'arcade' mode for beginners...

VGP2 is an original MacOS game and not a port from other platforms (in fact other platform versions are being ported from the MacOS X version). Therefore it was specially optimised for both MacOS Classic and for OSX. There are three different executables and not just a carbonized one).

VGP2DemoClassic - Classic OS version

VGP2DemoX - OSX version

VGP2DemoFFBX - OSX version with ForceFeedback support (10.2.3 or higher required)

By slightly reducing the graphics detail you can expect very good framerate even on slow Macs, as the 3D engine is not ported from other platforms, but an original MacOS one based on Apple's implementation of OpenGL.

The full version of VGP2 will sport 20 cars, 15 full detailed tracks, a network game mode, the 'TrackDesigner2' track editor tool with all the 15 tracks in source format, a championship mode to try to become the new 2003 World Champion and, as a bonus the 'Techniques' section of the manual is written by the italian driver E.Colombo. It takes you through a mini-course in the techniques real open-wheeled drivers use to go even faster!
Enjoy VGP2!

Installation

Troubleshooting

Virtual Grand Prix 2 FAQs

Q: After changing some options and exiting the game I'm unable to start it again

A: If for some reasons you're experiencing problems with new settings simply delete the 'opzioni.config' file in the 'opzioni' folder and the game will revert to factory settings

Q: The Force Feedback version doesn't work on my pre-10.2.3 version of MacOS X

A: Use the XGP2demo executable, as Force Feedback is only supported starting from 10.2.3

Q: The game does not work on my pre-Jaguar (10.2) version of MacOS X

A: VGP2 is designed for Jaguar; it may work on previous versions of MacOS X, but it's not guaranteed

Q: If I turn reflections to full the game is very slow and/or sometimes crashes on my Mac

A: Full reflections require lots of graphics memory, turn them on only if you have a hi-spec graphics board with a lot of RAM

Q: Under MacOS X sometimes textures get corrupted

A: This is a bug in the OpenGL driver of some OS X versions with textures bigger than 256 pixels and fullscreen antialiasing. Try a different resolution/screendepth, disable antialiasing or, even better, get the latest OS X patch from Apple

Q: The game is too slow on my Mac

A: Disable antialiasing and/or reduce the graphics detail/reflections

Q: The game is too difficult/The game is too easy

A: Go in the options/simulation menu and select arcade or realistic

Q: The car in the realistic simulation behaves in a manner I never experienced in other simulators

A: This is the way a REAL modern open-wheeled car behaves. Not many so called 'simulators' actually 'simulate' real cars, lots of them are just camouflaged 'arcade' modes.

Q: If I check the 'wet conditions' control, nothing seems to happen

A: This enables VGP2 to randomly change weather conditions. It may rain or not, just as in the reality

Q: How can I change the amount of fuel of the car?

A: Click the mouse while your car is in the pits and select the amount of fuel in the bottom-left control. If you want to start the race with this settings, return to the pits and save the car settings for the race

Q: What are the default keyboard controls of VGP2?

A: See below

Arrows keys: Control car in KEYBOARD mode

‘A’ and ‘S’: Shift gear up/down 1-4 numeric keys: Control camera view 7-9 numeric keys: Control visual info (such as best lap-times, etc.) 0 numeric key: Turn off visual info display ‘*’: Toggle HUD on/off
‘+’: Look at next car
‘-’: Look at previous car
‘TAB’: Record telemetry (only available in REALISTIC mode)
‘SPACE BAR’: Reset car
‘RETURN’: Change tyres (only available in REALISTIC mode)
‘P’: Enter PAUSE/INSTANT REPLAY mode
‘ESC’: Exit the current menu/session
